Deerfield, IL — Driven by the launch of its Balance Rewards program, Walgreen Co. was ranked 60th on the 2014 InformationWeek’s Elite 100, a list of top business technology innovators in the U.S.
The loyalty program has enrolled nearly 80 million active members since being launched in the fall of 2012, and is the largest loyalty rewards program in the U.S., the retailer claims.
The strengths of the program are an easy enrollment process, instant points and endless rewards on a variety of items across the store, Walgreens reports. In addition, Balance Rewards is unique in that it rewards enrollees for healthy activities such as weight management and being physically active.
Tim Theriault, Walgreens chief information, innovation & improvement officer, says: “This is great recognition for the work Walgreens has done to develop an omnichannel solution that ties consumers’ online and mobile experiences to our stores in communities across America. As technology continues to evolve and influence consumer behavior, Walgreens will continue to innovate and offer solutions to help people get, stay and live well.”
