Varina, VA — Mondelez International, Inc. will invest $40 million in a 38,000-square-foot addition that includes a new state-of-the-art production line to its South Laburnum Ave. cracker and cookie plant, the company claims.
The resulting facility will encompass about one million square feet housing 10 manufacturing lines for Mondelez’ Nabisco-brand Ritz, Wheat Thins and premium crackers and Oreo, Chips Ahoy! and Nilla wafer cookies. No additional jobs will be added to the 500 workers currently on site.
Mondelez will receive a $100,000 performance-based incentive grant for the addition from the Virginia Investment Partnership program.
In February, the company announced plans to invest $130 million in new manufacturing technology at the Virginia plant and one in Fair Lawn, NJ. It will close one of its bakeries in Philadelphia in 2015 as part of a supply chain restructuring initiative.
