April Retail Sales Up

Washington, DC — Total retail sales for April, excluding motor vehicles and parts, were up 0.1 percent compared with the month prior, totaling $343 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Grocery store sales totaled $48.3 billion, a 2.3 percent increase, while overall food and beverage store sales also grew 2.8 percent, totaling $54.3 billion, the Bureau reports.

Further, year-on-year total retail sales, excluding motor vehicles and parts, increased four percent.
