Andrew Young, co-president of Harold W. Young Inc., was honored with the 2014 Lou Spector Golden Candy Dish Award, presented by the NCA during this keynote.
The honor is bestowed upon a member of the broker community that has gone to great lengths to promote both the category and the industry as a whole.
Young joined the industry in 1990 and was mentored by his dad Jerry, who also won the award. In addition, his sister Betsy Harris won the Golden Candy Dish in 2012.
This year’s award winner is active in the industry, having served as chairman of the New England Convenience Store Association Trade Show for the past seven years, a board member of the Massachusetts Vending Association and of the Consolidated Sales Network. He is also president of Premier Broker Partners.
Award presenter and NCA Chairman Bob Simpson, COO for Jelly Belly Candy Co., said Young has grown the overall performance of the category with his principals and customers, adding: “He is confident in the broker’s ability to help customers and manufacturers succeed, and he believes in ‘the power of the people.’”
Young told Candy & Snack TODAY he is proud to join his family in receiving the honor, adding: “At the NCA State of the Industry Conference, Lou Holtz said, ‘if you succeed in something, it makes you feel good. But if you can help someone else succeed, it will make you happy forever.’ I’m trying to help people succeed, whether it’s a customer, manufacturer or another broker.”
