ADM Joins WCF Sustainability Initiative

Archer Daniels Midland has joined the WCF sustainaDecatur, IL — Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) is adding its support to the World Cocoa Foundation’s (WCF) CocoaAction program, which pools the resources of major cocoa and chocolate companies to strengthen sustainability efforts in West Africa, the company reports.

Developed with the governments of Ghana and Ivory Coast, the initiative takes a comprehensive approach to increasing productivity of cocoa farmers through improved agricultural practices, access to planting resources and education, monitoring child labor and empowerment of women. The program goal is to increase productivity by at least 100 percent by 2020 in the two countries.

Explaining that the WCF initiative complements ADM’s Socially and Environmentally Responsible Agricultural Practices program, Ian Pinner, president of ADM Global Cocoa adds: “By aligning our existing sustainability efforts with CocoaAction’s multifaceted approach, ADM is building on its commitment to improving the livelihoods of West African cocoa farmers and the communities in which they live.”
