New York — The Specialty Food Association (SFA) is establishing the Specialty Food Foundation, charged with developing tangible, durable programs that reduce hunger and facilitate food recovery efforts through grant awards, education and industry events.
Ann Daw, SFA president, says: “Our association’s core purpose is to serve our members, but as a community that produces and sells food, we are also keenly aware that we can help affect these two vital areas.”
The SFA reports the foundation has applied for 501(c) 3 status, and intends to hold its first event, Embrace Hunger Relief Day on October 10. In addition, it will begin in July to accept letters of inquiry from organizations interested in receiving grants. Invitations to submit proposals will be sent to those whose mission and approach align with the foundation’s, and as many as 10 grants will be awarded in December through a gift from the SFA.
