Madrid — Natra SA has joined the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), becoming the first company to do so since the organization initiated its new 2015 to 2020 strategy, according to the chocolate supplier.

The ICI’s mission, which is supported by the leading chocolate makers, cocoa traders and processors as well as international and civil society organizations, is to develop sustainable solutions for the cocoa supply chain with a focus on tackling child labor and promoting their safety.

Javier Almela, senior purchasing advisor and member of the corporate social responsibility committee (CSR) at Natra, says: “We are proud to become a member of ICI and contribute to collective actions that have already produced impressive results in raising the profile of children in cocoa sustainability, in reducing child labor and improving their chances for a better future.”

He adds the company’s 2020 Commitment to CSR is in line with that of the ICI’s goals of promoting a long-term and viable supply chain.
