Trends From Summer Fancy Food Show

New York — Products making novel use of protein-packed jerkies and smoke flavor in inventive places are some of the trends spotted at the Summer Fancy Food Show, according to the Specialty Food Association.

Items capturing the jerky trend include Bronx Brewery Pale Ale Jerky, from SlantShack Jerky; Wild Salmon Jerky, from Ocean Beauty Seafoods, Inc.; and Crushed Chilies No. 19 Turkey Jerky, from Field Trip Jerky.

Rick’s Picks, LLC’s Smokra pickles; Quin Candy’s Smoke Cola Gum Drops; and Hot Cakes Smoked Chocolate Chips fall under the smoked flavor trend.

Other trends pertaining to candy and snack categories are more twists on popcorn and the next wave of seaweed snacks, according to the association. Past trends identified as having staying power include coconut, sriracha, ancient grains, healthier snack chips and innovations around gluten-free.
