Bentonville, AK — Greg Foran has been promoted to president and CEO of Walmart Stores, Inc.’s U.S. business, succeeding Bill Simon.
He will assume the role on August 9, reporting to worldwide Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon while Simon transitions out of the company in a six-month consultancy. “His depth of knowledge and global experience will bring a fresh perspective to business,” McMillon says of Foran. “His passion to fresh food, experience in general merchandise and commitment to e-commerce will help us serve our customers even more effectively for years to come.”
With 35 years of experience in retail, Foran previously served in the same capacity for Walmart Asia and China, during which time he made significant progress in its assortment, pricing, store operations and compliance as well as strategic investments in the supply chain.
Prior to joining the retail giant, he held a number of leadership roles with Woolworths Ltd., the leading retailer in Australia and New Zealand, including managing director of supermarkets, liquor and petrol, Walmart reports.
“Being asked to lead the Walmart U.S. business is a privilege that I don’t take lightly,” Foran says. “The needs of our customers are changing dramatically and we have an enormous opportunity to serve them in new and different ways. We must be fierce advocates for our customers, work meticulously to exceed their expectations and earn their trust every day.”
