Takasago Expands Mint Business

Teterboro, NJ — In an effort to expand its mint production capabilities, Takasago International Corp. (USA) has expanded its facilities in Teterboro, New Jersey, and Vinhedo, Brazil, the company says.
Global Mint and Sensates Vice-President Mike Munroe tells Candy & Snack TODAY: “Mint flavors are going to be a key part of our strategy. The global market for mint-related products is about $1 billion and if you look at all the key market areas, there is a lot of growth in toothpaste and confectionery products and we want to be a part of that.”
A mint liquid production suite has been installed in a redeveloped area of the Teterboro plant, while laboratory and application areas have been added to the Vinhedo facility, Takasago reports.
The company claims specialists are currently expanding on Takasago’s existing mint products in Vinhedo, such as Intensates, flavors that provide cooling and warming sensations; Transatak, malodor suppression flavors; Mintact, synthetic mint flavors for stability and reliability; and Sensingle, for enhanced salivation. Takasago says the Brazilian site will focus on oral care, especially mouthwash.
Teterboro Director of Manufacturing Dana Drevitson explains the Teterboro facility features a new dedicated mint blending area with a range of large scale blending tanks and equipment.
Takasago Senior Vice-President and General Manager Brian Buck adds: “We now have two tangible examples of Takasago’s commitment to developing our resources and capabilities for mint business in the Americas. The Teterboro expansion comes on the heels of a number of other improvements and upgrades we’ve been making to this site during the past four years.”
