Valrico, FL — Chris Taylor — cocoa and confectionery expert and author who boasted tenures at Kraft Foods Europe Services GmbH’s Cadbury brand, Nestle SA and Mondelez International, Inc.’s Nabisco — has died at the age of 71. In 1996 he started a consulting business with his wife, Taylor Gentles Group, which is an NCA member, before joining Probat, Inc. in 1999 as key account manager for cocoa and chocolate products. He retired from Probat in 2006 and continued to run his consulting business from his home. Probat President Karl Schmidt says: “Chris was recognized at the ‘Go to Person’ for cocoa and chocolate applications. He was the librarian in this field of operation and received worldwide recognition by cocoa processors. Chris was an expert and a man of chocolate and confectionery process application. For him the world was an environment of cocoa and chocolate and nothing less.” While at Probat, Taylor was responsible for the opening of a cocoa processing factory in Ghana and performed feasibility studies for investors active in the processing business. Schmidt adds: “With him, we lost the ambassador, the advocate and promoter of the cocoa industry. As an Englishman with amazing human qualities, a keen sense of humor and a conservative liberal, he enjoyed being around people during association meetings and receptions, listening to people talk and encouraging them with his unforgettable smile, patiently letting them finish their thoughts.” He is survived by his wife Launtia, sons Andrew and James, and two grandchildren.
