2012 C-Store Sales Reach $700 Billion

Chicago — Convenience store industry sales reached $700.3 billion in 2012, up from $681.9 billion in 2011 with sweet snacks sales increasing 10.3 percent from the year prior, according to the National Association of Convenience Stores.
With a 2.2 percent uptick, in-store sales growth reached $199.3 billion in 2012. In addition to sweet snacks, alternative snacks — such as meat snacks and nutrition, energy and protein bars — contributed to the increase of in-store sales, with a 12.2 percent jump from 2011. Center store sales including candy, sweet, salty and alternative snacks, accounted for 10.4 percent of total convenience store sales.
