Gelnex Launches Sustainable Pallets, Brazilian Programs
June 21, 2013
Chicago — Gelnex Corp. is employing several sustainability initiatives, including a wood- and plastic-free pallet program the company expects will save 40,000 trees per year in addition to conserving weight and energy.
The company has also begun printing the Child Friendly Company seal on its gelatin bags. An initiative of the Brazil-based Abrinq Foundation, the seal shows the company’s support for the non-profit dedicated to promoting the rights of Brazilian children and adolescents. Gelnex also reports it has launched several charity programs in Brazil that focus on reading, digital education, health, support for the elderly and environmental education.
“There is a real need for assistance in some of the rural areas in which are plants are sited,” Gelnex USA President Felipe Chaluppe says. “It is not enough to create jobs, although that is very important to building strong communities. We must also help improve schools, libraries, health services, elder care, infrastructure and recreation for a healthier, more sustainable future.
