Dot Named Top Green Provider
July 2, 2013
Mt. Sterling, IL — Food Logistics magazine has named Dot Foods, Inc. one of 65 Top Green Providers for 2013, designated as providers who exceed industry standards in their sector.
The publication reports Dot’s Cambridge City, IN, plant has slashed energy usage by 15 percent throughout the past two years with lighting upgrades, insulated freezer doors and refrigeration technology. Dot claims it installed and retrofitted a great deal of its frozen and refrigerated warehouses with high-efficiency LED lighting, which has allowed the company to take advantage of $40,000 in energy incentives from energy cooperatives and reduced lighting and cooling costs.
In addition, Dot introduced a sustainability committee in 2008 that has resulted in measurable reductions in waste removal costs, total utility costs, computer paper expenses and water usage, according to Dot. The company says the sustainability committee has also seen positive increases in battery recycling income and overall recycling pounds and income.
Food Logistics Editor-In-Chief Lara L. Sowinski says: “Food producers and manufacturers have a longstanding and unique relationship to sustainability and environmental conservation, considering their dependence on water resources and arable land.”
