Spartan Stores Acquires Nash Finch

Grand Rapids, MI — Spartan Stores, Inc. is acquiring Nash Finch Co., making it the largest food supplier to U.S. military stores and expanding its presence to an additional 37 states.
With combined sales of $7.5 billion, grocery distributor Nash Finch and c-store and supermarket company Spartan Stores, will have 22 distribution centers and 177 retail stores, according to Spartan.
Dennis Eidson, president and CEO of Spartan, will lead the combined entity and Alec Covington, president and CEO of Nash Finch, “will remain with the organization in an advisory role to ensure a smooth transition,” Spartan reports.
“Together we will create one of the premier grocery wholesaler and retail operators, with a comprehensive portfolio of high-quality private brands, nationwide distribution services and a strong platform for future growth,” Eidson says.
