Joseph Bell Wins PMCA Award; Two Elected To Board
August 21, 2013
Bethlehem, PA — Joseph Bell, of Joseph Bell Consulting Inc., is the recipient of the PMCA’s 2013 Marie Kelso Memorial Award for his paper, “An Introduction to the Physiology of Sweet and Bitter Perceptions,” that explores the reasons behind varying individual taste perceptions.
Each year since 1997, the PMCA awards an author of a paper presented at the previous year’s Annual Production Conference that most significantly contributes to industry knowledge. It is named after Marie Kelso, who served as secretary of the Production Conference committee for 38 years. PMCA Marie Kelso Award Chair Steve Genzoli, of Ghirardelli Chocolate Co., will present the award during the 2014 Production Conference in April.
The association has also inducted Abdoulaye Traore, Ph.D., of Mars Global Chocolate, and Kimberly Yoder, of Cargill Cocoa and Chocolate, to its board of directors. Genzoli and Reginald Ohlson, a retired Mars, Inc. employee, were also re-elected for another term.
An Ivory Coast native, Traore is a process development scientist at Mars and “has made important contributions throughout his career to cacao genetics and biotechnology in Ivory Coast and Ghana,” PMCA reports. He is a member of PMCA’s Production Conference committee and has served on various sub-committees.
Yoder is currently senior technical services manager for Cargill’s North American Cocoa and Chocolate business, boasting 16 years with the company. There, she manages the technological relationships with Cargill’s cocoa and chocolate customers. She also serves on PMCA’s Education and Learning committee and the 2014 Innovation Course sub-committee.
