March Retail Sales Increase From 2012

Washington — Adjusted retail sales excluding motor vehicles and parts reached $340.5 billion in March, a two percent increase from March 2012 sales of $333.8 billion and a 0.4 percent decrease from February sales of $341.8 billion.

Food and beverage store sales totaled $53.9 billion in March, a three percent increase from the same month the year prior when sales were $52.4 billion, but a 0.1 percent decrease from February sales of $54 billion. Grocery store sales were flat from February at $48 billion and increase 2.7 percent from March 2012's $46.9 billion.

Unadjusted total retail sales, excluding motor vehicles and parts, for the three-month period from January to March were up 2.2 percent from 2012 at $961.3 billion.
