Washington — For the fourth year in a row, the 2013 Sweets & Snacks Expo grew in registration, exhibitors and square footage, according to the NCA.
More than 15,000 attended the Chicago event, a ten percent increase from the year prior. The NCA sold nine percent more square feet of booth space than in 2012 and had 164 new exhibitors, compared with the 140 new exhibitors in 2012. Internationally, the show experienced double-digit growth with attendees from more than 90 countries.
“In a challenging economy, it is apparent by the continued growth that our event provides vital tools, insights, innovations and resources that the industry values,” NCA President Larry Graham says. “We feel the 2013 Expo successfully positioned us as a destination for world markets and we plan to continue expanding our global efforts for future Expos by partnering with firms including Planet Retail and Euromonitor.”
In addition, more than 6,000 candy and snack buyers attended and new item submissions were up 17 percent from the past year.
Tim Quinn, Mars Chocolate North America vice-president, trade development and Expo chairman, adds: “We have evolved into so much more than just a show. Attendees come to find not only new product innovations, but also effective business strategies and inspiring ideas and solutions.”
The 2014 Sweets & Snacks Expo will again be held at Chicago’s McCormick Place from May 20 to 22. Although the show floor will be larger, the NCA says booth space is already 85 percent sold out.
