Suzhou, China — Kraft Foods Co. Ltd. broke ground today on an $85 million, 98,000-square-foot biscuit plant in here, part of its commitment to increase investments in emerging markets.
The company says the site will feature state-of-the-art production lines for Oreo and Chips Ahoy! in order to meet the growing demand from Chinese consumers. The facility is expected to be complete in 2014.
Shawn Warren, President of Kraft Foods China, says: “Since the introduction of Oreo and Chips Ahoy! to China in 1996, the country has become our second-largest market for these brands globally, after the United States, due to our consistent focus on quality, innovation and marketing. After this project is complete, the expanded plant will be a model in our global supply chain network.”
