Kansas City, MO — Hostess Brands, LLC’s Twinkies snack cakes will hit shelves again July 15 under new owners, Apollo Global Management, LLC and Metropoulos & Co., according to company spokeswoman Hannah Arnold. The partners purchased the majority of Hostess’ brands for $410 million in March following Hostess Brands, Inc.'s bankruptcy filing and bakers’ union strike.
As they did before Hostess Brands, Inc. dissolved in November, Twinkies will have a SRP of $3.99 for a box of 10, which now carries the tagline, “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever.” CupCakes, Ding Dongs, Donettes, HoHos, Zingers, fruit pies and mini muffins will also debut under the new ownership in July. CupCakes are now made with dark cocoa instead of milk chocolate for a richer, darker appearance.
The company has employed a distributor rather than delivering products directly, a move that will allow Hostess to be delivered to dollar stores and nearly all convenience stores. Previously, it could only reach about one-third of the country's 150,000 c-stores. Hostess has also scaled down production operations from 11 to four and its headquarters were moved from Texas to its original location in Kansas City.
