Washington — Cocoa farmers in Indonesia will receive microfinance loans, access to service, and fermentation training as part of the World Cocoa Foundation's (WCF) project with non-profit economic development organization ACDI/VOCA, WCF reports.

WCF claims it has given a $300,000 grant to ACDI/VOCA that the organization is matching with a $275,000 contribution to the Cocoa Innovations Project.

Seasonal microfinance loans including cash and fertilizer inputs will be distributed to farmers, and ACDI/VOCA will demonstrate effective use of fertilizer and agricultural practices, including community-based fermentation training for women in two communities.

The Cocoa Innovations Program will also give farmers access to mobile phones and bank accounts, allowing cocoa buyers to make mobile payments and gain information about agricultural practices.
