Chicago — The National Chocolate & Dessert Show is seeking nominations for its first-time Chocolate and Dessert Innovation Awards, recognizing companies and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to the chocolate and dessert industries.
Awards will be given in four categories: best new product/innovation, best sustainable product, best flavor profile and best technology. Nominations for the new product/innovation awards must have been introduced in 2013 and each entrant may submit three products, while the other categories require only one product be nominated. The sustainable category award will be given to products that protect or improve the environment through initiatives such as energy-efficient production, green packaging and sustainable cocoa farming practices. The best technology award-winner must demonstrate an ability to improve efficiency and processes within the industry, “from packaging to production and beyond,” the show organizers report.
The French Pastry School Director Franco Pacini, Dessert Professional Publisher Matthew Stevens, Plate Magazine Managing Editor Liz Grossman and John Reed, of the American Culinary Federation, will judge the nominees. The deadline to enter is August 15, finalists will be announced September 20 and the awards will be presented at the Chicago show Oct. 20-22, held at Navy Pier.
