Cleveland, OH — With 8,200 locations, 7-Eleven, Inc. is the top c-store chain, according to CSP Business Media, LLC; followed by Alimentation Couche-Tard, Inc.’s Mac’s and Circle K stores at 5,500; CST Brands Inc.’s Valero Energy Corp with 1,880 stores; and Casey’s General Stores, Inc., which has 1,750 retail locations.
Store count aside, CSP touts retailers who use “smart growth,” including entering new markets, remodeling and building and acquiring new stores, as opposed to “big growth” in numbers.
“While The Pantry technically decreased its store count by 46 stores since last year’s list, the company actually had its first new-store build in four years and remodeled about 10 percent of its locations. QuikTrip, 7-Eleven and Wawa all employ similar grow-and-sell strategies,” CSP reports.
7-Eleven also led the pack in 2012 with 6,300 stores and Alimentation maintained its second-place ranking from 2012, when it totaled 6,200 stores.
