San Francisco — Made with 10 grams of protein from organic sunflower seeds, new Zego nutrition bars are nut-, gluten-, dairy-, soy- and GMO-free.
Carrying a SRP of $2.50, the bars come in a sunflower seed variety with a hint of caramel, according to CEO and Co-Founder Jonathan Shambroom, and chocolate with cacao nibs. Each 1.7-ounce bar contains 210-220 calories.
“We've really been embraced by a few different communities. One is the allergy-free world — anyone who's avoiding nuts, gluten, soy and dairy, and athletes and people who are active,” Shambroom tells Candy & Snack TODAY.
Launched two weeks ago on crowdfunding site, indiegogo.com, Zego is halfway to its fundraising goal of $50,000 and will be available for wholesale purchase in August. The bars will come packed in 12-ct display boxes shipping 12 per case.
In addition, the company is donating 20 percent of proceeds to the non-profit, Campaign for Better Nutrition, whose mission is to improve the nutritional quality of the food low-income children receive through public programs.
