Orange County, NC — Japan-based Morinaga America, Inc., manufacturer of Hi-Chew fruit chews, is investing $48 million in a 20-acre plant in Orange County, NC, slated to open in mid-2015.

The company reports the investment comes after Hi-Chew entered the American market several years ago and has seen steep incremental growth since, CEO Maso Hoshino says.

COO Terry Kawabe adds: “Beginning production in the United States made sense for use from a logistical standpoint. It is a testament to our brand that after a few short years in the U.S. we were able to move forward with this endeavor.”
