Chicago — The Hillshire Brands Co. has acquired Rancho Cucamonga, CA-based Golden Island Gourmet Jerky and plans to grow the all-natural, preservative-free pork and beef jerky brand.
Golden Island’s manufacturing facility was included in the transaction and the former company will be a part of Hillshire’s Gourmet Food Group, led by Senior Vice-President and Chief Innovation Officer Sally Grimes. Golden Island President Anna Kan will continue to be involved in the company, according to Hillshire.
Hillshire says: “Golden Island’s unique jerky-producing process combined with our strong national brands and sales capabilities will help broaden the appeal of jerky as a meat snack and introduce it to new audiences.”
With more than 20 gourmet varieties of jerky, Golden Island kettle cooks its beef and flame grills its pork jerky in small batches and contains 40 to 60 percent less sodium than other jerkies, Hillshire claims.
