Washington — All About Candy is the new outreach program to educate consumers, retailers and media on the place of candy in American culture and traditions being launched by the NCA.
The first chapter of the program will focus on the coming Halloween season and provides fun facts on the holiday, recipes and health and safety tips. In addition, the chapter also includes information from the NCA’s Sweet Insights program, including infographics, sales reviews and details on consumers’ shopping habits. The NCA reports it will add to and update the information each year.
“We are providing information about candy and its special connection to Halloween, this is the type of information that consumers, retailers and media often request,” says Susan Smith, NCA senior vice-president, communications and outreach. “It's a way for us to work with our members and share candy’s special place during Halloween.”
She notes that the program's first year will focus on holidays because of consumers' connections with candy and the memories and pleasures of celebrating holidays with family.
While each major candy-buying holiday will receive the same treatment, the NCA has also put together a 15-month calendar to serve as a reminder that candy has a place in America culture everyday of the year. The calendar includes category facts, celebrities’ birthdays and favorite treats, and minor national holidays such as National Candy Cane Day and National English Toffee day.
