Hershey, PA — Robert J. Huzinec, Principal Scientist, R&D, at The Hershey Co., is the 2013 recipient of the AACT’s Stroud Jordan Award for his contributions to the field of confectionery technology.

Huzinec holds 17 patents for confectionery processes and has taught courses in confectionery. He recently produced a video to educate high school and college students on careers in confectionery and food science. He is an active participant in AACT’s National Council scholarship, long-range educational, technical seminar planning, budget and long-range planning committees and is involved in local AACT programs.

He also is a member of the board of directors and vice-president of the PMCA.

“I am a firm believer in education for everyone,” Huzinec says. “It’s important that we, as stewards of this industry, embrace mentorship and assist others.” In addition to teaching and mentoring high school students in confectionery science, he founded and chairs an annual golf event to provide scholarships for children with learning disabilities.

Prior to joining Hershey in 1997, he was a member of the R&D teams at Leaf, Inc. and American Chicle, a division of Warner Lambert. He received Hershey’s Gold and Silver Team Awards of Excellence for new product innovation and creativity related to product launches.
