Vevey, Switzerland — Nearly 100,000 people in cocoa-growing communities in Ivory Coast now have access to clean water and sanitation facilities as a result of a partnership between Nestlé S.A., the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Cross Society.

As part of the company's Cocoa Plan, a total of 50 water pumps and 68 blocs of school toilets have been built or renovated in rural areas during the past four years, five years ahead of schedule.

In addition, the program helped educate the communities on how to store water, treat it at home and build sanitation facilities. Further, some 35,000 children were taught the importance of hand washing.
