Philadelphia — Carl A. Goldenberg, the third generation of his family to run Goldenberg Candy Co., passed away Monday, October 14, of prostate cancer.
The 1988 Candy Hall of Famer began his career in 1950, after serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, in the company’s production facility, working his way up to president before retiring in 2004.
He was the last president of the Philadelphia Manufacturers of Confectionery and Chocolate trade group and a member of the National Confectionery Sales Association. In addition, he received the NCA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2000 and the 1986 Kettle Award.
Goldenberg is survived by Barbara, his wife of 60 years; his sons, David and Samuel, his brother, a 2000 Candy Hall of Fame inductee, Ed; a sister, Ellen; and five grandchildren.
