Hershey, PA — The Hershey Co. has achieved zero waste to landfill (ZWL) status at two of its production facilities, bringing the company's total number of ZWL plants to eight.

The facilities, located in Lancaster, PA, and Robinson, IL, have both reduced overall waste streams and increased recycling rates to approximately 90 percent, Hershey reports. Remaining waste is sent to waste-to-energy incinerators, which help reduce overall reliance on fossil fuels.

The company reports it has reached its goal of converting five plants to ZWL by 2015 ahead of schedule.
