Deerfield, IL — Mondelez International, Inc. increased its net revenues 1.8 percent in the third quarter of 2013 from the same quarter the year prior to $8.5 billion.
North American chocolate revenues slid from $90 million to $83 million, and candy and gum profits dropped from $334 million to $312 million. Mondelez reports overall candy and gum revenues in North America were offset by poor gum sales, noting candy, excluding gum, exhibited positive growth. Driven by Oreo, Chips Ahoy! and belVita brands, profits from the company’s North American biscuit business increased from $1.32 billion in the third quarter of 2012 to $1.37 billion. Overall, Mondelez's revenues from the region grew from $1.77 billion to $1.78 billion.
Europe, the firm’s largest region comprising almost 40 percent of its total revenues, posted positive growth at $3.29 billion, up from $3.25 billion in Q3 2012. Gum and candy and chocolate profits declined, however, while biscuit revenues increased from $658 million in 2012 to $750 million.
