Chicago — Snack supplier Enjoy Life Foods has been named the Category Advisory for “free from” foods by Progressive Grocer magazine.
This is the first year the award was given in a free from category, the company reports. It received the award by demonstrating a recognizable expertise in this particular product segment.
Further, Enjoy Life claims this award shows the continued growth and adoption of allergen- and gluten-free food segments in the supermarket space. In addition to not containing gluten, the company's snacks are free from the eight major allergens that are responsible for 90 percent of allergic reactions in the U.S.
Joel Warady, chief sales and marketing officer for Enjoy Life, says: “We are honored to have earned the recognition by Progressive Grocer and the establishment of free from as an important trending category in the supermarket space.”
The company notes that sales of gluten-free products rose $4.2 billion during this past year and that by 2017, sales of these products are projected to exceed $6.6 billion. The overall free from segment is anticipated to account for more than $12 billion in sales during the next four years.
