Bentonville, AR — Walmart Stores, Inc. has named Doug McMillon the successor to Mike Duke as president and CEO, effective February 1.
Since 2009, McMillon has served as president and CEO of Walmart International. Prior to that he served the same role of the company's Sam’s Club division.
He began his career with Walmart as a summer associate at one of the company’s distribution centers. Most of his experience has been in merchandising for food, appeal and general goods, the company reports.
Rob Walton, chairman of Walmart’s board of directors, says: ”Doug is uniquely positioned to lead our growing global company and to serve the changing customer, while remaining true to our culture and values. A merchant at heart, Doug has both a long history with our company and a keen sense of where our customers globally are heading next.“
Duke will continue to serve as chairman of the board’s executive committee and will stay on for one year as an advisor to McMillon, the company reports.
