Davos, Switzerland — Nestlé S.A. has been listed on the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World index, according to Corporate Knights, a Canadian media and investment research company.
The Global 100 represent corporations from 22 countries in nine industry sectors.
Noting that two-thirds of the Global 100 will likely double resource productivity by 2025, Corporate Knights CEO Toby Heaps says: “They are leading a resource productivity revolution, transforming waste into treasure and doing more with less. They are steering our civilization away from ecological overshoot back to a place of balance with our planet.”
The index ranks 100 top-performing stocks worldwide on the basis of 12 industry sector-specific sustainability metrics, including revenue generated per unit of energy consumption, lost time injury rates and the salary ratio of the CEO to the average worker. An initial screening of approximately 4,000 companies worldwide weighs sustainability disclosure practices, financial health, product types and recent legal payouts.
Using key performance indicators, the 350 companies remaining are scored against other companies in their industry sector. In addition, Corporate Knights evaluated data gleaned from Bloomberg L.P. and direct contact with the shortlisted companies.
Nestlé USA Manager of Corporate & Brand Affairs Edie Burge tells Candy & Snack TODAY: “We look forward to continuing our efforts in this area. Our strong policies and transparent reporting in the area of environmental sustainability, including climate change mitigation activities, water management practices and raw material sourcing, led to Nestlé achieving 97 percent in the ‘environment dimension’ of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index this past September.”
