UC Davis Hosting Child Labor Conference

Davis, CA — The problem of harmful child labor in global agriculture supply chains will be the topic of discussion during a symposium being held at the University of California, Davis School of Law on April 4.

The symposium, Confronting Child Labor in Global Agricultural Supply Chains, aims to identify contemporary practices to challenge the worst forms of child labor by supporting community education, combating poverty and implementing practical and sustainable monitoring systems, the organizers report.

Scheduled speakers include Constance Thomas, of the International Labour Organization; Dr. Alfred Babo, of the University of Bouaké, Ivory Coast, and visiting professor at Smith College; Dr. Harold Schmitz and Dr. Howard-Yana Shapiro, of Mars, Inc.; Kevin Johnson, JD, Dean of the University of California, Davis School of Law; Nick Weatherhill, of the International Cocoa Initiative.
