Merrillville, IN — The Albanese Confectionery Group, Inc. has unveiled plans to expand its Hobart, IN, plant by 120,000 to 190,000 square feet, increasing its production capacity at the facility, the company reports.

Plans presented by Albanese Director of Engineering James Dragon at a rezoning meeting with the Hobart city council include doubling the factory’s production lines to four by the end of 2015 with possible additional lines being added in 2016.

Dragon says the company plans to hire additional workers to address the increased manufacturing capacity, and it anticipates the new facility will increase tourism to the area.

The original facility was built in 1997 to facilitate Albanese’s expansion into the gummi market.
