Minneapolis — Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has opened a Product Assurance Services and Solutions (PASS) facility in Sunnyvale, CA, to provide West coast-based candy and snack manufacturers with off-site and on-site packaged product screening, the company reports.

Global Manager, PASS, Darren Eaton explains the facility’s location was chosen so companies with urgent production contamination inspection issues can receive screening results of processed products in a timely, cost-effective manner.

The Central Valley operation is equipped to detect foreign object contamination, processing anomalies and flawed and missing components. In addition, the company offers local manufacturers the option of on-site services and can provide off-site facilities with additional metal detectors and x-ray equipment to screen multiple truckloads of products.

According to Thermo Fisher Scientific, PASS facilities can process metal, glass, plastic and paper packaging, including rigid and flexible formats.  In addition to Sunnyvale, the company has PASS sites in Barrington, IL, and Warwickshire, England.
