McLean, VA — The Board of Directors of Mars, Inc. has appointed Global President Mars Chocolate Grant F. Reid to succeed Paul S. Michaels as president upon Michaels’ retirement on December 31, the company reports.
Reid will become co-president on July 2, and will transition to president on January 2, 2015.
In his tenure as global president of Mars Chocolate, Reid has been responsible for driving growth in mature and developing markets and effecting industry collaboration on cocoa sustainability. He is credited with the growth of the company’s farmer-oriented Sustainable Cocoa Initiative, according to Mars, Inc.
Reid’s 26-year career at Mars has included positions in sales, marketing, commercial, manufacturing and general management as well as several business segments.
Chairman of the Board Victoria B. Mars says of Michaels: “In his almost 11 years at the helm of Mars, Inc., Paul has overseen a period of outstanding business performance and tremendous achievement. He also built up the talent of the company while strengthening the visible presence of our Five Principles in the way we operate.
