Berkeley, CA — Organic and natural food manufacturer Annie’s, Inc. has closed on the purchase of Safeway, Inc.’s Joplin, MO, cookie and snack manufacturing plant for $6 million, the company reports.
The acquisition was funded with an estimated $7.4 million cash on hand. Concurrent with the purchase, subsidiary Annie’s Baking, LLC has entered into a three-year supply agreement to produce items for an affiliate of Safeway.
Annie’s CEO John Foraker says: “The Joplin plant has been a valued manufacturing partner of Annie’s since our introduction of Cheddar Bunnies crackers more than a decade ago. We see a bright future in our snacks business, and I am confident the capacity and capabilities provided by this plant and its dedicated workforce will help us achieve our significant long-term growth potential.”
