New Food Safety Act Explained

Webinar — Regulatory Education Other Education

January 27, 2011

Congress just passed sweeping food safety legislation that will impact each and every NCA member.  Do you know what to expect?

NCA PRESENTS  THE FDA FOOD SAFETY MODERNIZATION ACT EXPLAINED

  January 27, 2011 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. EST

(we will preserve the final 30 min for Q&A)

This new law represents the most significant expansion of food safety requirements and FDA food safety powers since its creation in 1938.  If you manufacture, process, pack or hold food – this new law affects you.  Full implementation will likely take years, but some provisions are effective immediately and many others are effective within the next 6 to 18 months. John Bode and Bob Hahn of Olsson, Frank and Weeda – a premier FDA, USDA and health care law firm – will join NCA staff on this webinar to explain the major provisions of the bill and begin the discussion of what NCA members need to do to come into compliance.  Major provisions of the bill include:

  • Registration and Inspection Requirements
  • Hazard Analysis and Preventive Control Plans
  • Import Requirements
  • Recordkeeping and Record Access
  • Fees
  • Recall Authority

This webinar, and the accompanying briefing paper, are the first steps in what will be an active period of NCA technical assistance to members in the coming month.  We advocated for the industry during the legislative process, and we will be a resource for the industry now that the bill has become law.
