Chocolate seems to be the overriding taste of Valentine's Day. From truffles to heart-shaped boxes of chocolates to chocolate peanut butter hearts, it is hard to get past this time-honored classic. However, other classics still have a place in our hearts and our loved ones' stomachs. Conversation hearts, for example, are also staples of the holiday, as are cherry-flavored candies, such as gummies and jellies.

Valentine's Day has a confusing history. There are two St. Valentines and nobody knows for sure which the holiday is nameed for. Moreover, neither of the two had any element of romantic love to his story, thus deepening the mystery.

Valentine, a young priest, secretly married young couples in his church, thus disobeying an imperial directive. He was arrested and jailed, and before being executed, penned a letter to a woman he loved, in which he wrote, "From your Valentine."
