The recipients were recognized at last month's State of the Industry Conference in Miami, Fla. Both attendees were on hand to receive the awards from NCA Chairman Mitchell Goetze and Vice Chairman Bob Simpson.
"Doug and Fred both embody the best spirit of the confectionery industry," said Goetze. "When someone is passionate about their trade, it shows in everything they do and that passion is evident in both of our recipients this year."
Goetze noted that Hintlian learned Italian in order to be a better business partner for the European equipment manufacturers he represents as an industry supplier. "Those who know Fred are not surprised to see him demonstrate that level of dedication," Goetze said.
Taylor, meanwhile, was credited with helping NCA grow exhibit space and membership in the early days of the SWEETS & SNACKS EXPO® (then the ALL CANDY EXPO®) by encouraging manufacturers to participate. "He has always been NCA's cheerleader," said Simpson.
The Distinguished Service Award honors individuals who have worked tirelessly throughout their careers, often in cooperation with NCA, to benefit the candy industry in a lasting way. View a list of previous recipients.
