U.S. Sales for Candy and Gum continue growth while units decline from cost inflation
Sales for candy and gum in food, drug & mass rose 3.8% according to Symphony IRI consumption reports for the latest 52 weeks ending January 22, 2012. Drug led all growth at 5.6% while mass grew 4.1%, and grocery gained 2.8%. Convenience stores also continued their strong growth at 5.7% with latest 12 weeks accelerating with 9.6% growth. Unit sales numbers on the other hand are softening from cost inflation with latest 12 week trends for FDMx off 2.5%, grocery off 3.6%, drug down 3.1%, and convenience stores off 2.9%.
