Dollar sales show modest growth while unit sales soften
Annual sales for Candy and Gum at Food, Drug, & Mass channels less Walmart grew 3.8% with grocery up 2.8% and Drug up 5.5%.

Convenience continues to lead all channel dollar sales growth, up 6.1% according to SymphonyIRI data for the latest 52 weeks ending February 19, 2012.

Despite dollar growth units across all three categories of Chocolate, Non Chocolate and Gum are now softening resulting from cost increases. Cost inflation has compressed margins and units are now beginning to suffer due to gains in retail shelf prices. Unit sales across all are declining (-1% to -4%) vs. year ago in Grocery, Drug and Convenience channels.
