Confectionery sales continue to lose momentum
Candy & gum sales for the four weeks ending November 4th posted a very slight gain of .8 percent in FDMx according to SymphonyIRI Group. Overall sales for the same 52 week period were up 1.7 percent with chocolate leading with a 2.9 percent gain. Non chocolate was close behind with a 2.5 increase while the gum segment was down 4.8 percent. Convenience was the clear leader in the past year with sales up 4.5 percent according to panel data while grocery finished with a 1.8 percent gain and drug struggled with a .7 increase.
