NCA estimates that overall Halloween confectionery sales were flat with sales off 0.4%. Chocolate candy sales increased 4.1% and non-chocolate candy sales declined 7.2% for the Halloween sales period.
IRI indicates that drug store sales of Halloween candy increased 5.3% while supermarkets declined 0.4% and mass merchants and Wal-Mart sales indicated a 2.4% decline.
Sales of Halloween-themed packaged products increased in 2002 after two years of declines. Chocolate Halloween-themed candies increased 21% while non-chocolate increased slightly less than 1%.
