IRI reports a 2.6% increase in 2007 Halloween Candy sales and sales for the most recent fifty-two week period have increased 3.3%. Halloween 2007 marks the ninth consecutive confectionery holiday with an increase in sales. An expected strong Christmas selling season will lead to a strong finish for the year.
Drug Stores and Mass Merchants report stronger than average sales with their fifty-two week confectionery sales increasing 4.5% and 4.8% respectively. Supermarket sales have increased 2.2% in the past fifty-two weeks.
Sugar Free Gum with a 12.9% sales increase; mints, with a 5.6% sales increase; non-chocolate chewy candy, with a 3.8% increase and chocolate candy, particularly bags and boxes greater than 3.5 oz. are leading the way to strong everyday sales.
