NCA's 2011 Distinguished Service Award - Doug Taylor

Doug better known as DT to his friends, has been working in the food industry his entire career and specializing in candy for more than 35 years.

In 1975, DT became national sales manager for Katherine Beecher Candies. He later worked for York Candy Kitchen and then joined the team at Spangler Candy Company eventually rising to Senior Vice President.

Throughout his career DT has been an advocate for the industry; today he runs his own consultancy service and has helped increase sales for many NCA members.

His commitment to the category has been recognized widely and garnered several honors. In 1983, DT received the Silver Candy Dish award, followed by the Gold Candy Dish in 1986.

He was named Dean of the Confectionery Industry, and received a Publisher's Award from Professional Candy Buyer magazine.

In 1995, DT was inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame, starting a long relationship with the National Candy Sales Association. In fact, from 2005 through 2009, DT served as President and Chairman of the NCSA Board of Directors, and was awarded the NCSA Medal for service to the industry.

DT has been similarly dedicated to NCA. He has served on numerous committees and was recently elected to our Supplier Advisory Committee.

He also helped grow our EXPO and NCA membership by encouraging manufacturers to exhibit and helping to turn those exhibitors into members. The staff at NCA credit DT with delivering dozens of exhibitors in the early days of the show. "He has always been our cheerleader," they say.

In an industry like ours, there are many who are known for their excellence - and DT stands out among them.

Where he has an opportunity to contribute, he does. Where he has an opportunity to help, he can. And where he has an opportunity to make a difference, he will.
