NFL football starts tomorrow night. And I’m not talking about all the pre-season hope-your-star-player-doesn’t-get-hurt nonsense. No, tomorrow night the defending Superbowl champs (New Orleans Saints) take on that persistent Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.
Not a huge sports fan? Don't you worry. Football season starting up is good news for everyone involved, because it means parties. And if you aren’t a fan of parties – well I’ve got nothing. But back to planning your shin-dig.
Chips and dip, burgers, wings and pizza are all great, savory and simple foods for entertaining some rowdy guests as you cheer on your team. My dad whips up some Philadelphia cheese-steaks and homemade chili for our halftime refueling. But in my experience, you also have to have something sweet to cap it all off. Win or lose – you need a candy and chocolate infused dessert at your party to celebrate the victory or ease the pain of defeat.
My personal favorite? This recipe for chocolate footballs from our friend Elizabeth, the candy expert over at About.com. Chocolate-peanut butter footballs to be exact (I know, a shocking choice for this mint-chocolate fanatic). But how can you resist these delicious treats – Elizabeth describes them as having centers that are “fudgy, nutty, sweet, salty, and absolutely addicting.”
Cheers to a fall full of football fun!
